How do I white label my app?

White labeling your Knack app means removing Knack branding and presenting the app under your own identity. This article covers the three ways to do that in a Classic app: removing the "Powered by Knack" link, embedding your app on your own website, and using a custom domain.

Removing "Powered by Knack"

Knack adds a "Powered by Knack" link to the bottom of your app's pages by default. To remove it, you need to be on the Pro plan or higher. This isn't available on the Starter plan.

You can view current plans and pricing on the Knack pricing page. To upgrade, go to Dashboard > Plan and Billing > Plans in your Dashboard.

Embedding Your App

If you already have a website, you can embed your Knack app directly into it. This keeps users on your domain the entire time, since they never see a separate Knack URL.

Using a Custom Domain

A custom domain replaces the default Knack app URL with your own branded URL, like portal.yourcompany.com. This is available on Pro plans and higher.

Unlike Next-Gen apps, Classic custom domains are set up with help from the Knack Support team rather than fully self-service. You'll need to configure your CNAME record with your domain provider first, then submit a request. Support will confirm the DNS change, which can take 24 to 48 hours to complete.

Configure DNS before requesting
Your custom domain should only be attached to your app after your CNAME configuration is complete and confirmed. Proxy configurations aren't supported. Your CNAME must point directly to v3customdomains.knack.com.

Where to set this up
Go to Settings > Custom Domain in the Builder. If your account has access to custom domains, you'll see a Request Custom Domain button. If not, you'll see an option to view plans and upgrade.

Choosing the Right Approach

Remove "Powered by Knack" only if you just want the branding gone and don't need a custom URL.
Embed your app if you have an existing website and want your app to live inside it.
Use a custom domain if you want a clean, standalone branded URL, with or without embedding.

These options aren't mutually exclusive. Many apps use a custom domain and remove "Powered by Knack" together for a fully white-labeled experience.
