Acquiring or Transferring Account Access
Managing access to your Knack account is an important security consideration, especially during personnel changes. This article explains how to properly transfer ownership when needed.
What You'll Learn
You'll discover the secure process for transferring account ownership when team members leave or roles change. Following these procedures ensures continuous access to your Knack applications while maintaining proper security protocols.
Account Access Security Protocols
For security reasons, account ownership changes can only be made by the current account owner through the Knack Dashboard. Knack support staff cannot change account ownership on your behalf or access account owner details.
Transfer Methods
If you need to transfer account ownership (for example, when an employee leaves your organization), you have two main options:
Option 1: Direct Transfer by Current Owner
The simplest method is to have the current account owner:
- Log in to the Knack Dashboard
- Navigate to Account Settings
- Update the account email and other owner information
- Save the changes
Option 2: Password Reset Method
If the former account owner is unavailable but you have access to their email:
- Use the password reset link on the login page
- Access the reset email sent to the former owner's email address
- Set a new password
- Log in using the new credentials
- Navigate to Account Settings
- Update the account email and owner information
- Save the changes
Note: Knack staff are prevented from altering or accessing account owner details to ensure the security of your account.
Recommended Preventive Measures
To avoid access issues in the future:
- Consider using a role-based email address for account ownership (e.g., [email protected]) rather than an individual's email
- Document account access procedures as part of your organization's offboarding process
- Ensure multiple team members are added as Shared Builders where appropriate
- Have a plan in place for ownership transfers before team changes occur
